ARA-290

One of the few peptides in this field to have reached controlled human studies.

PropertyValue
TypePeptide, 11 amino acids
OriginModelled on part of EPO
Research fieldNerve pain, small nerve fibres, tissue inflammation
Research statusPhase 2 human studies conducted
FormFreeze dried powder

What it is

EPO is the hormone driving red blood cell production. It also has a protective action in tissue, through a different receptor. ARA-290 is designed so that only that second route remains.

How it works

It acts on the so-called tissue protective receptor, a combination of two receptor parts separate from the blood forming route. The effect on red blood cells therefore does not occur, which was the very objection to EPO itself.

What the research shows

Controlled human studies have been run, including in sarcoidosis with small fibre complaints. That puts the level of evidence above most substances in this field.

Research status

Clinically studied through phase 2.

Practical

Dissolves normally in bacteriostatic water, keep the powder in a freezer.
