Cagrilintide

The second satiety signal, coming from the pancreas rather than the gut.

PropertyValue
TypeAmylin analogue with a fatty acid tail
ReceptorAmylin receptors
Research fieldSatiety, appetite, stomach emptying
Research statusClinical research ongoing
FormPowder in a vial, also in blends

What it is

A copy of amylin, the hormone the pancreas releases alongside insulin. Natural human amylin clumps into fibres and is therefore unworkable; cagrilintide is modified so that does not happen, with a fatty acid tail added for duration.

How it works

Amylin slows stomach emptying, curbs glucagon and sends a satiety signal to the brainstem. That route is separate from GLP-1, which is why the two are often combined in research.

What the research shows

The combination with semaglutide is known in the literature as CagriSema and is one of the most closely watched lines of research in this field. The thinking is that two independent routes together give a stronger signal than driving one route hard.

Research status

In clinical research in humans.

Practical

Often supplied as a blend with a GLP-1 analogue. With such a mixture, ask for a certificate in which both substances were measured separately.
